Hidalgo County not only has the Gila River running through the northern section of the county; it also is bordered on the north by the Gila National Forest and on the south by the Coronado National Forest. Many quiet, rural roads and hiking areas weave through the county making our area a terrific place to ride your motorcycle, bike, hike, or travel horseback. Much of the county is owned by the state or managed by BLM and visitors can get a real taste of wide-open spaces, pollution free air, clear blue skies, and magnificent sunsets.
Biking groups come from various different states and travel through our county on tours and competitions. Camping is possible in the forest areas of the national parks and RV'ers are welcome to stay at any of our RV parks in Lordsburg or Rodeo. Our mountainous areas are great for hiking and mountain climbing. There are many magnificent views to inspire artists in any medium.
